By day Six Poor Folk is a cosy coffee house, by night a candlelit bistro; no matter what time you visit, the welcome will always be warm.

If you call yourself a coffee house you’d better serve a damn good coffee, right? Well we do. Created specially for us by York Coffee Emporium, our house blend is smooth and sweet with hints of ripe fruits and a dark cocoa after taste.

Our grinder and coffee machine are regularly calibrated to ensure the brew is tip top every time and the free WiFi means you can be virtually anywhere.

If you need a quick fix, but are short on time, we have nifty recycled takeaway cups too.

Our daytime menu has plenty of brunch choices, some more substantial lunch options (mussels and a glass of wine anyone?…) and if sweet treats are more your thing there’s a selection of home-baked cakes – with gluten-free and dairy-free options.

When you break it down, what makes an enjoyable evening out is pretty simple. Get the key things right and you’re onto a winner. We offer cracking food, drink and hospitality.

We’re lucky enough to have some great suppliers (R&J Yorkshire’s Finest, Yorkshire Dales Meat Co., Hodgson Fish, Class One, Manna Bakery to name a few), bringing fresh, high-quality produce each day.

You won’t find pages of dishes on our menu, it’s small but perfectly formed, with the addition of weekend specials. The team use seasonal produce to curate traditional bistro-style dishes packed full of flavour. So guests are encouraged to take their time and enjoy the experience. The aim is to turn heads, not tables.

A polite request…

Unfortunately for sufferers, food intolerance is now commonplace. Thankfully we are agile enough to be able to adapt many of our dishes accordingly. To ensure the best dining experience possible please advise us of any allergy or intolerance in advance.

All this care and attention takes time. Six Poor Folk is a microwave-free zone. So during a busy service there may be a wait for your food. Thankfully our regulars have become friends, they’re more than happy to patiently sit back and soak up the atmosphere. We hope you will do the same.

We look forward to sharing our bistro with you.
